MMS case: Cops arrest Mom of teen victim

Police arrested the mother of a 16-year-old school student who reportedly connived with her relative in killing her daughter, who had figured in a video clip showing her getting intimate with a few schoolboys.

Police said Padmavathy, 36, was arrested for instigating her relative Hari to commit the crime to “protect the honour of the family”.

On Saturday the police had arrested Hari, uncle of Kamini (name changed) after a postmortem report revealed that the girl died after a hyoid bone in her neck was broken.

The family tried to cover up the death of Kamini, a Plus-1 student, stating that she committed suicide after an obscene MMS video clip involving Kamini with other boys circulated among other boys.

Based on the postmortem report police grilled Hari, who later confessed to have murdered the girl as per Padmavathy’s directions.

Police said Hari reportedly had an affair with Padmavathy and the duo hatched a plan to murder her.
Padmavathy was produced before Gummidipoondi court and remanded to judicial custody.
