A mixed bag for ‘criminals’ in UP
Some bad boys have lost and some have won.
While “senior” gangsters like Brijesh Singh, Munna Bajrangi and veterans like Hari Shankar Tiwari have lost the elections, younger ones like Abhay Singh (SP), Veer Singh (SP) and Mehboob Ali (SP) have won their seats.
Mafia don Mukhtar Ansari, who contested from inside the jail, won his Mau seat but lost from Ghosi.
Akhilesh Singh, a Peace Party candidate, won the Rae Bareli Sadar seat while Vijay Misra won the Gyanpur seat in Bhadohi. He is in jail on charges of masterminding the bomb attack on former BSP minister Nand Gopal Nandi.
Independent MLA and former minister Raja Bhaiyya retained his Kunda seat with a record margin once again but D.P. Yadav lost his Sahaswan seat in Badaun district.
Guddu Pandit, jailed for abduction and rape of a research scholar, won his Dibai seat on a SP ticket and Veer Singh, son of dreaded dacoit Dadua, also marched to the victory post from Chitrakoot.
Ajai Rai won the Pindra seat on a Congress ticket but Udai Bhai Karwaria of the BJP lost in Allahabad.
Chandra Bhadra Singh and Yash Bhadra Singh, brothers in crime, lost from Sultanpur Sadar and Isauli, respectively. Both were contesting on a Peace Party ticket. Mitrasen Yadav, charged with heinous crimes, won from Bikapur but Ateeq Ahmad lost in Allahabad.
