Mirwaiz blames govt for ‘divide’ among Muslims

Kashmir’s chief Muslim cleric and chairman of one of the two factions of separatist Hurriyat Conference alliance Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has blamed the government for the sectarian divide among the local Muslims.
He threatened to “expose” the official agencies and bureaucrats who allegedly in connivance with some “sold out mullahs” are creating wedge between the followers of Islam, the Valley’s majority community, actually to serve political purposes and precisely weaken the ongoing “freedom struggle”.
“The money power is being used to sow the seeds of hatred and ignite a sectarian war among the Muslims of Kashmir. We know some bureaucrats and official agencies are being used in to play this dangerous game but I’m quite confident the Kashmiris are mature enough to comprehend what is happening around them. They will give a befitting reply to all such elements and foil their nefarious designs,” he said while addressing a Friday congregation at Srinagar’s historic Grand Mosque.

age CORRESPONDENT
SRINAGAR, April 27

Rumour spread in Kashmir Valley on Friday that chief minister Omar Abdullah has resigned in the aftermath of a reported clash between some ministers of the coalition partners during a Cabinet meeting he had presided over on late Thursday evening.
The meeting held in the winter capital Jammu ahead of the closure of the Jammu and Kashmir government offices for the biannual move to summer capital Srinagar known as “Durbar move” had approved a major reshuffle in the police hierarchy besides some other administrative chan-ges.
However, the rumour purported, some Congress ministers had resented certain propositions leading to the clash with their counterparts from Omar Abdullah’s National Conference (NC). The rumour was shared through SMSes initially in north-western Baramulla town but soon spread to other parts of the state. Srinagar and Jammu newspaper offices started receiving frantic calls from people.
