Minor raped, hanged in police station
A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped and hanged inside the Nighasan police station premises in Lakhimpur district on Friday night.
All the 11 policemen posted at the Nighasen police station have been suspended. According to reports reaching here, she had been missing since Friday and her body was found hanging from a tree near an under-construction administrative block inside Nighasan police in the night. SP D.K. Rai said, “She had taken her cattle for grazing in the rear side of the building and when she did not return till late, her mother went to the spot and found the girl’s body hanging from the tree.”

Train derails, no one injured
Mumbai, June 11: Six bogies of a Mumbai-bound express train derailed at Kasara Ghat near here in the early hours on Saturday, but no one was injured in the mishap. The Darbhanga-LTT (Mumbai) Express jumped off tracks at around 1am, a Central Railway spokesperson said. The train, with all passengers, reached Mumbai early morning, he said. —PTI

PM accepts invite from Lanka Prez
Colombo, June 11: Bandula Jayasekera, the Sri Lankan presidential spokesman, said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has accepted Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse’s invitation to visit Sri Lanka.
National security adviser Shivshankar Menon handed over a letter of acceptance of Mr Rajapakse’s offer by Dr Singh, he said. —PTI
