Minister won’t resign, off on Umrah
While the confusion continues to persist over the status of resignation of works minister and senior Congress leader G.M. Saroori on the issue of MBBS entrance examination (ASCOMS) impersonation racket involving his daughter Huma Tabassum as one of the beneficiaries amid contradictory statements pouring from the Centre and the minister’s end, former National Conference minister whose son too was beneficiary in this case resigned.
However, ex-minister and senior National Conference (NC) leader Ram Paul, whose son too was one of the seven beneficiaries in this sensational impersonation case unearthed on August 21 in Jammu University, resigned on Wednesday as chairman Scheduled Caste and Backward Classes Cell of the J&K National Conference, Jammu province. The resignation has been accepted by the party high command.
The NC spokesman in a communiqué maintained that former minister Ram Paul’s resignation came in the wake of his name finding mention in the ASCOMS entrance examination impersonation case which has been referred to by the state government to the CBI for an impartial enquiry.
In his resignation letter Ram Paul has claimed that he is innocent and will cooperate with the CBI probe which he said he was confident will prove his innocence. However, he further said that keeping in view the high moral standards laid down by the J&K National Conference and its leadership, he is resigning from the party post.
Meanwhile, G.M. Saroori has reportedly already left for Umrah without getting mandatory “political clearance” for any minister from ministry for external affairs to travel abroad.
