U.P. MINISTER QUITS OVER CMO ‘ABDUCTION’
UP minister for revenue and rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Singh, who was accused of abducting Gonda chief medical officer S.P. Singh earlier this week, succumbed to pressure and resigned on Friday.
Mr Vinod Kumar Singh told reporters he had decided to step down on moral grounds. He, however, demanded a probe into the CMO’s role and the allegation levelled against him. He indicated it was his political rivalry with a Samajwadi colleague (read minister Anand Singh) that had led to his being framed.
Party sources, however, claimed SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav asked Mr Singh to resign to save the government further embarrassment.
CMO S.P. Singh, who was “untraceable” since Monday night, reported at his office on Friday evening.
