UP minister in kidnapping row
UP chief minister Mayawati’s problems never seem to end.
Yet another of her ministers is now in the dock — this time for allegedly kidnapping a junior engineer of the power department at Orai in Jalaun district.
According to a complaint lodged by the engineer’s wife, Sunita, with the Madhogarh police, the engineer, Arvind Kumar Verma, has been kidnapped by UP minister of state for home guard, Hari Om Upadhyay.
“The minister had made a call on my husband’s mobile phone at around 10 am on March 7. When he went to Madhogarh power station to attend duty at around 11 am, the minister’s security officers reached there in a Scorpio and forcibly bundled him in the vehicle and took him to the minister’s ancestral village Kuthaunda. He has been missing since then. I do not know the motive behind this,” Sunita told reporters in Madhogarh.
The police, meanwhile, has registered a case against unidentified persons on the basis of Sunita’s complaint and are suspicious about her claims.
“If her husband is missing since March 7, why did she not inform us earlier? As per our investigations, Arvind Kumar Verma and his staff members, Jitendra Yadav and Deepak Singh, had gone to minister’s house in Kuthaunda village at around 12 noon and the three returned to Orai a few hours later after meeting the minister.
