Minister: didi misusing minority funds
Union minister of minority affairs K. Rahman Khan on Monday slammed the Mamata Banerjee government for misusing Central funds meant for minority development. “The UPA government has provided funds for the development of minorities in the state. These funds were meant for the education of children from the minority community. But what are they doing with these funds? They are digging tubewells and making toilets. They do not seem to interested in development of minorities,” Mr Khan added. He was addressing a minority convention of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
Mr Khan also voiced his displeasure over the state government’s persistent efforts to take credit for the welfare schemes and projects which were being funded by the Centre. Meanwhile, chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that her government had completed 99 per cent of the recommendations of the Sachar Committee for minority development.

Bihar gov, govt spat over V-C appointments

The protracted tussle between Bihar governor Devanand Konwar and the Nitish Kumar-led government over the management of the state’s universities flared up again on Monday when Mr Kumar questioned the way Mr Konwar controversially reinstated vice-chancellors whose appointment was quashed by the high court.
Mr Kumar said his government was not consulted by the Raj Bhavan for the latest appointments of the same VCs and pro-VCs who were earlier described as unsuitable by the government and their appointment was quashed by the Patna high court two months ago due to lack of consultation with the government. Four of these VCs have vigilance cases pending against them. Konwar, however, maintained that the government was consulted this time round and that the governor was the final authority to take decisions.
