MHA studies Delhi response
The Union home ministry is studying the Delhi government’s response on the findings made by the Shunglu Committee related to bungling in the Commonwealth Games projects.
“We have received the 3,400 pages, 14 volumes report. We are studying it now,” a home ministry official said. The Delhi government reportedly has rejected the Shunglu Committee report saying that it was based on “presumptions” and “assumptions” without verification of the facts. Government sources said that the MHA may submit the replies of the Delhi government to the PMO for further action. However, a final view will be taken once the ministry has studied the response of the Sheila Dikshit government.
A similar exercise is underway in the sports ministry, which has referred the findings of the Shunglu Committee to the urban development ministry, the Delhi government, the CPWD, the NDMC for their views.
The Cabinet Secretary, in a letter to the sports ministry last week, had specified that the ministry of sports may recommend or initiate action if it deems fit. The Cabinet Secretary has said that in case the ministries/departments disagree with any of the recommendations, it should be brought to the Prime Minister’s notice before proceeding further.
