MHA Naxal review likely month-end
The Union home ministry is expected to review the anti-Naxal operations and development initiatives in Maoist-hit states in September-end. Home minister Sushilkumar Shinde is expected to meet the chief secretaries and DGPs Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to review the ongoing anti-Naxal operations as well as development programmes being implemented there.
With the monsoon coming to an end, security forces are wary of the Naxals intensifying their subversive activities in the next few months. The top officials are likely to chalk out strategy how to deal with the threat posed by the Naxals in various states as they are expected to target security forces, political workers and government buildings in the coming months, official sources said. An important factor will be the forthcoming Assembly elections and the general elections next year.
