MHA asks 3 states to share info
As the police net closes in on controversial godman Asaram Bapu in the case of sexual assault involving a 16-year-old girl in a Jodhpur ashram, the Union home ministry has asked the governments of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi to share the facts of the case.
The MHA is also verifying reports of more cases of sexual assault being reported against the controversial godman in Madhya Pradesh where it is alleged there could be other instances of sexual harassment involving girls in the ashram.
Concerned over the rising cases of crimes against women across the country, the MHA has asked the three states to share information. While law and order is a state subject, sources said that home minister Sushilkumar Shinde will inform Parliament on the facts of the case and the progress in probe after collecting the information from the states.
