Mere discussions on JPC not enough: BJP
Jan. 2: Justifying its demand for a joint parliamentary party (JPC) probe into the corruption issue, including the 2G spectrum allocation scam, the main Opposition BJP on Sunday maintained that mere discussing the issue in Parliament will have no outcome. The party also asked the government to spell out outcomes of the debates Parliament had on issues like price rise.
“The government blames the Opposition for not discussing the issue of JPC in the House. I would like to ask the government that we have discussed issue of price rise, not once, not twice, but 10 times during UPA rule,” said Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Ms Sushma Swaraj.
Writing on the issue in a social networking website, Ms Swaraj said: “The common man is suffering and the government has turned a blind eye and deaf ear. What is the outcome of those discussions?” The BJP and other Opposition parties have been demanding a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum scam, but the government has been maintaining that there is no need for such a probe. The recently concluded Winter Session of Parliament had to face deadlock over the JPC issue, with the Opposition parties firm on their demand on the issue.
The BJP-led NDA also held a “massive rally” in the national Capital on the corruption issue recently. The Opposition leaders have threatened to stall the proceedings in the coming Budget Session, expected to start in the third week of February, if the JPC demand was not met.
