Members of BJYM detained for protesting against Varma
Around 20 members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) were detained by police for carrying out protests near film-maker Ram Gopal Varma's office in suburban Andheri for his statement on casting Maria Susairaj, convicted in the Neeraj Grover murder case, in his upcoming film.
Recently, Varma had said on twitter, a micro-blogging social networking site, that he wants to cast Susairaj in his upcoming film 'Not a Love Story', which is based on Neeraj Grover murder case.
"Once we got the news that BJP Yuva Morcha will carry out protests outside Varma's office, our policemen were on alert since last night. 15 to 20 people have been detained and taken to Oshiwara police station and further course of action will be decided thereafter," a senior police officer from Oshiwara police station said.
The protesters held placards, which read ‘Casting Criminals in Films is a Crime’. They also raised slogans against Varma.
Yesterday, the cine-wings of Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) also warned of action if anyone casts Susairaj in a film or television show.
