Meet our demand too: GJM
The creation of a separate Telangana state is expected to open a pandora’s box of demands for separate statehood in other parts of the country.
As the government is weighing its options before announcing its final decision, the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha, which has long been demanding separate statehood for Gorkhaland, has warned of largescale protests if the Central government agrees to carve out a separate Telangana state.
The Union home ministry is already wary of a possible law and order fallout of the proposed announcement on the Telangana statehood demand expected to come by this month end.
GJM general secretary Roshan Giri led a GJM delegation which met home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Tuesday.
Mr Giri said if the government agrees to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh to create a seperate Telangana state, then the Gorkhaland demand should also be met. Mr Shinde is learnt to have assured the delegation that their concerns will be looked at and there is no final decision taken by the government either way on the vexed Telangana issue as yet. There are demands for separate state of Bodoland and separate hills state status for Dima Hasao in Assam.
