Mayawati asks party to gear up for elections
UP chief minister Mayawati has asked her party men to begin preparing for elections as soon as the assembly session in Uttar Pradesh comes to a close.
Addressing a meeting of party MPs, MLAs and MLCs here on Thursday, the chief minister said that after the Assembly session, party leaders should fan out into their constituencies and begin preparing for polls. She asked them to highlight the achievements of her regime and dispel doubts that may remain in the minds of voters.
The UP chief minister’s statement has fuelled speculations that elections in the state could be held earlier than scheduled. “It is how you read her statement. In any case, elections are less than a year away and there is nothing significant in asking MLAS to begin preparing for polls,”said a BSP minister.
