Maya tears into Akhilesh govt
Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Tuesday mounted a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing a mammoth rally to mark the sixth death anniversary of Kanshi Ram here, Ms Mayawati slammed all parties, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, for their failure to declare national mourning on the death of Kanshi Ram.
“You should always remember this insult and never forgive these parties,” she added.
She condemned the Akhilesh government for cancelling the public holiday on Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary and said that this reflected the “anti-dalit and petty” mentality of the Samajwadi Party.
“This government has changed names of the university, hospital and district named after dalit icons. My government never tampered with the park named after Ram Manohar Lohia or indulged in such political vendetta. This government should mend its way or else we can also give them a befitting reply. In the Samajwadi regime, my statue was broken and about two dozen statues of Dr Ambedkar were desecrated,” she pointed out.
Ms Mayawati said that had it not been for Dr Ambedkar, OBC leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav would not have risen to their present stature. “Mulayam Singh and his family would have been tending buffaloes owned by upper caste persons even now,” she said.
She almost tore into the Akhilesh government and said that the chief minister had surpassed his father when it came to making announcements that were never meant to be fulfilled.
“Uttar Pradesh has turned into Crime Pradesh and mafia raj is prevailing in the state. Dalits and non-Yadav OBCs are feeling deprived and insecure while Muslims are being targeted in communal riots. The SP government is not serious about ensure the welfare of Muslims, and deprived sections of society. It is merely offering them lip service. Dalit officers are being victimised and extortion and corruption are the hallmarks of this regime,” she said.
Ms Mayawati explained that as chief minister she had not hesitated in taking action against her own ministers if they were found guilty of misconduct.
Ms Mayawati announced that the BSP would no longer entertain criminals or corrupt persons this time.
