Maya seeks action on magazine
The Mayawati government has ordered a CB-CID inquiry against a Hindi monthly called Ambedkar Today for publishing an objectionable article in its recent issue.
In the article, the writer has reportedly made some “unparliamentary, obnoxious and objectionable comments” against a particular religion.
The state government has also ordered seizure of all the copies of magazine and the concerned district magistrate has been asked to initiate action for cancellation of the title of the magazine with immediate effect.
The magazine which carries the names of several BSP ministers as its patron and the editor, according to the official release, has apologised for doing so without obtaining necessary permission form the concerned leaders.
In a related development, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Rita Bahuguna Joshi has demanded a ban on a text book published by Eklavya Prakashan for Classes 1 and 2 under the title of Humko Phir Chhuti.
According to a statement issued by the UPCC president, the book makes derogatory reference to a particular community. A poem in the book says “Bhola kisan, bania shaitan” which offends the Vaishya community.
“The BSP has always played up casteist sentiments top target one or the other community. Strict action must be initiated against officials responsible for the purchase of this book and copies of it must be seized with immediate effect,” Ms Joshi said.
