Maya’s aim is Aug. 15 speech from Red Fort
Making her prime ministerial ambitions crystal clear, BSP supremo Mayawati on Sunday urged party workers to ensure a “big victory” for the BSP in the next general election, and warned them against becoming a “saleable commodity”.
Addressing a rally of party workers, the former UP chief minister said only a big victory could ensure that she can “deliver the Independence Day speech as Prime Minister from the Red Fort”.
Ms Mayawati cautioned party workers to be alert against forces that may “try to corrupt them” in Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. “Don’t become a saleable commodity,” she warned.
She accused the Congress and BJP of conspiring to stall the bill on quotas in promotion for SCs/STs in government jobs, and promised if her party comes to power at the Centre, it will ensure its implementation.

Early hanging of 4 Veerappan men looking unlikely
Naushad A. Bijapur
Belgaum, Feb. 17
With the clamour for commuting the death sentence for four associates of Veerappan rising, their fate remains uncertain with the government in no hurry over the execution.
The clemency petitions of Gnanprakasham, Simon, Meesekar Madaiah and Bilavendran were rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee earlier this month, and the authorities at Belgaum’s Hindalga jail had even made all preparations for a Sunday execution. But it seems unlikely they will be hanged even on Monday after the Supreme Court on Saturday refused an urgent hearing on their plea seeking a stay saying there was no proof they would be hanged on Sunday.
