Maya move wrongly timed: BJP
The BJP on Wednesday said Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati’s decision to divide the state into four regions is “wrongly timed” and is not development oriented. The party is contemplating bringing a no-confidence motion against the Mayawati government in the coming Assembly session.
Senior BJP leader M.M. Joshi said while his party is in favour of creation of smaller states, the UP government’s decision will prove “bad” for the state. He claimed the BSP supremo’s decision is only aimed at diverting attention from the rampant corruption going on under her rule.
“This is not the right time for this (divide the state)... there are bigger issues in the state that need immediate consideration,” said Dr Joshi.
The PAC chairman said if this move was aimed at development of the regions, then by taking the decision to split the state it has been confirmed that no development has taken place so far under Ms Mayawati’s rule.
He said regions like Purvanchal and Bundelkhand need development but that can also be done by setting up an authority where people’s representatives are asked to submit plans linked to various development aspects in their areas. Dr Joshi said funds can be earmarked by the authority for such plans.
