Maya to hold kisan meet

In an obvious effort to build bridges with farmers in UP, UP chief minister Mayawati will hold a kisan panchayat on Thursday in which she is expected to hear their grievances. The CM is also expected to announce some sops for farmers at the panchayat.

The move to hold the kisan panchayat is aimed at assuaging the feelings of farmers who have been on warpath on the issue of land acquisition. The issue snowballed into a major political controversy after the clash with the police in Bhatta-Parsaul village in Greater Noida.
