Maya to dole out gifts on b’day

UP chief minister Mayawati may have cut out ostentatious celebrations for her 55th birthday on January 15 but that will not stop her from doling out gifts to the people of Uttar Pradesh on that day.

The chief minister will announce houses for the beneficiaries of the Mahamaya Garib Aarthik Madad Yojana in the state. The Mahamaya Yojana gives a monthly pension of `300 to those poor people who are not covered under the BPL and other schemes. At present, there are 31 lakh families that have been identified for benefits under the Mahamaya Yojana that was announced on the chief minister’s birthday last year.
“The houses to these people will be made available under the third phase of the Kanshi Ram Awas Yojana,” said a senior official.
On the chief minister’s birthday, mobile medical units for 15 districts will also be rolled out.
The districts that will get the mobile medical units are those that have been identified as either “Left-wing, extremist-affected areas” or “difficult to access” region.
The districts include Banda, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jalaun, Jhansi and Lalitpur in the “difficult to access” category and Sonebhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Mau and Ballia in the “extremist-affected area” category.
The mobile medical units will move into villages where government healthcare centres are not present and each unit will travel to these villages at least once a month. Each mobile unit will have facilities for mother and child healthcare, immunisation and basic health facilities that are offered at the primary healthcare level.
Meanwhile, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) will be throwing up its schemes for bookings of 2,500-odd flats in the state capital on the chief minister’s birthday.
These flats will be in various housing schemes across the city for various income groups.
The chief minister, according to sources, will also inaugurate an underground parking lot in the posh Indira Nagar area, a three level parking lot in Gol market and a foot over bridge built near the Alambagh bus station.
Apart from this, there are some more schemes that are being finalised for announcement on January 15.
According to party sources, Ms Mayawati will be using her birthday as an occasion to announce several populist schemes since Assembly elections in UP are only a year away.
“After January 15, we have only March 15th which is late Kanshi Ram’s birth anniversary, to announce such schemes. The chief minister wants all these schemes to become fully operational within six months,” said a senior party functionary.
