Maya asks MPs, MLAs to raise UP-related issues
The monsoon session of Parliament starting in August is all set to be stormy. Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati, on Sunday, asked all her MPs to raise issues related to Uttar Pradesh in an “unrelenting manner”.
Ms Mayawati, who was addressing a meting of party workers from western UP here on Sunday, said that while the BSP MPs must raise issues in Parliament, the BSP MLAs should raise the issues in the monsoon session of the state Assembly.
“We have been demanding imposition of President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh but the governor has not paid attention to our demand. It is high time that the Centre should intervene in the misrule in the state and we will bring the lawlessness prevailing here into focus,” she said.
Ms Mayawati said that “jungle raj” was prevailing in the state and the mafia and anti-social elements were running a parallel government.
“You must tell the people about the faulty policies of this government and keep them informed about the state of affairs here. The law and order situation is fast deteriorating and in this atmosphere, investors are backing off. Development has ground to a halt and the communal atmosphere is being vitiated,” she said.
The BSP president alleged that the communal tensions were being fuelled by the Samajwadi Party with the apparent intention of benefiting the BJP because the two parties are hand-in-glove.
She asked party workers to take full advantage of the growing resentment against the ruling Samajwadi government in the state and remind people of her regime and how she had reined in criminal elements.
Interestingly, Ms Mayawati also asked her party cadres not to “take the risk” of using the media to spread their campaign but to go directly to the people.
