Maya announces `6,035cr projects
UP chief minister Mayawati, on Sunday, announced 484 projects worth `6,035 crores on the fifth death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram. The chief minister paid floral tributes to late Kanshi Ram at his memorial and laid the foundation stones for various developmental projects.
The projects include schemes meant for water supply, sewerage and drainage projects worth `2105.56 crores and `2,344 crore-project for power sector, which included laying down foundation stones of 26 transmission sub-stations with a cost of `1766.37 crores.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that the Opposition parties had often criticised her for spending so much money on memorials but the huge turnout of visitors at these memorials should serve as an apt reply to her detractors.
The Kanshi Ram Memorial is built on 86 acre of land having a built-up area of over 10,000 sq metres and is known for its magnificence.
Meanwhile, the Bahujan Samaj Party also observed the death anniversary of Kanshi Ram at all district headquarters on Sunday. BSP MPs and MLAs were directed to remain in the constituencies and participate in the party function. The state capital was draped in blue banners and buntings and over 200 huge hoardings had been put up across the city, paying homage to the departed leader.

Rahul makes surprise visit to bharatpur

There was no cavalcade to sound it was a VVIP visit. Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi made a surprise visit on Sunday to villages and localities affected by September’s violence in Bharatpur’s Gopalgarh area. The local administration was not aware of his visit while Mr Gandhi was accompanied by minister of state for home Bhanwar Jitendra Singh.
“He met the victims of violence and gave them a patient hearing. It helped in the affected families, who narrated their tale, says Zahida Khan, the Congress MLA from the Kama constituency of Bharaptur. Gopalgarh falls under the Kama tehsil. According to the sources, Mr Gandhi reached early morning by road from Delhi to Gopalgarh.
The district magistrate and superintendent of police in Bharatpur were caught unaware when Mr Gandhi reached there.
He visited three villages — Piprali, Malika and Gopalgarh — and paid a visit to the mosque where he was briefed about the loss. A local cleric, Molvi Arsad, told mediapersons that he spent a little time in mosque and saw the bullet marks of police firing.
He also rode on a bike with local resident Billa Mev and again took the ride with a youth, Mubin, while reaching out to the affected families.
