Mauritian civil servant traces orissa roots
A Mauritian civil servant, Mr Ramroop Jugurnauth (51), arrived on Sunday arrived at his ancestral Mulagaon village under Jajpur district in Orissa after making years of search of his roots.
Soon after his arrival, he was also felicitated by state panchayati raj minister Kalpataru Das, Jajpur MLA Pranab Prakash Das, sub-collector Maheswar Panigrahi, chairman of Jajpur municipality Aloka Behera and others at a grand reception in Jajpur town. Mr Ramroop had arrived along with his wife and two daughters on Friday in Bhubaneswar to trace his roots and know more about the land his forefathers had left over 142 years ago to work as indentured (contract) sugarcane labourers. “It feels good to be come home. I am in a mission here to search my root in Jajpur district after I discovered some rare Oriya language handwritten letters including some important documents and Oriya written shlokhas (hymns) in our house,” said Mr Ramroop.
