Maruti Suzuki declares lockout at Manesar plant
Maruti Suzuki chairman R.C. Bhargava on Saturday declared lockout at Manesar plant which remained shut on Day-3 after rioting that broke out on its premises leaving its HR manager dead and nearly 70 injured on Wednesday.
'There is a lockout at Manesar plant. We cannot start production due to danger to life and safety,' said Bhargava. But he hastened to add that the thought of moving out of Manesar was 'absolute fiction'.
Giving his personal account on the workers' riot at Manesar plant, Bhargava said, "he never thought our workers would indulge in this type of rioting and violence which was not anticipated at all."
He said the violent workers had managers and supervisors during the rioting on Wendesay evening.
The Manesar plant would be shut pending a detailed investigation, he informed.
However, the lines of communications would remain open with workers at Manesar plant. Bharagava clarified that there were 'no simmering issues' with the labour at the Manesar plant that could have exploded into such as ugly incident like that one that occurred on Wednesday.
