(The poster says: For the attention of those who seek alliances: Beware of rogues who crash weddings/alliances by spreading rumours and lies. They say stories of illnesses, bad habits; spend their own money and are ready to travel for bursting marriages. They should know that the people have lost patience. You would be punished without taking your age, relation and family background into consideration.

If you feel that this poster is about you, then of course, it is about you. With social responsibility, Vampires)

In a span of four years, eight marriage proposals went down the gutter for 32-year-old NRI, Shanavas of Kaippamangalam near Thrissur in Kerala.

And none was due to his fault. Like a nightmare, a horde of men in the region has been going around wrecking lives of several youngsters such as Shanavas, and at last voices are being heard against the anti-socials.

Posters and hoardings have come up across Kaippamangalam, the epicenter of these ‘wedding crashers’ who try several unfriendly tricks that include rumouring about premarital affairs and infectious diseases and in other cases bursting crackers and burning the brides in effigies just outside the house of the couple leaving the bride nervous on her first night.

The new group that calls itself ‘Vampires’' has vowed to oppress and suppress the anti-socials and has also issued warnings against the ‘crashers’ who spend easily to wreck marriages which has become a passion for them.

The ‘Vampires’ comprises 35 youngsters residing in the region. They claim that they started the campaign after the nuisance became strong and unbearable. “We will take ‘action’ against anyone who involves in causing trouble at or before marriages. We will not take into consideration their age or family,” the poster warns.

Vampires secretary, Rameez K.R. said, “The NRIs come back home with hopes of getting married and settling down, but anti-socials are wrecking their lives. Even those who are settled here become victims. It is just fun for these wreckers, but we cannot tolerate that anymore.”

Rameez added that they are getting many calls in this regard from other districts too.

Ironically, Wedding Crashers was a Hollywood comedy that was worth a laugh watching Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn spoiling receptions to woo single women at weddings but the real life ‘crashers’have only left frowns on faces.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
