Maoists kill former sarpanch, son in Orissa
In unabated attacks, Maoists killed a former village Sarpanch and his son suspecting them to be police informers in Orissa's Malkangiri district early on Wednesday, the police said.
About 50 armed rebels stormed into village MV-98 under the jurisdiction of the Kalimela police station area, about 40 km from here and dragged out former Sarpanch Manoranjan Biswas and his son from their house in the early hours, they said.
The father and son were taken by the Maoists to an isolated place on the outskirt of the village and killed with sharp edged weapons, they said.
The ultras disappeared into the nearby dense forest after killing them. The ultras targeted the duo as they apparently suspected them to be police informers, the police said.
Incidentally, Biswas's daughter happens to be a police constable and the rebels feared that the former sarpanch and his son were regularly passing on information relating to Maoist activities to her, they said.
Security personnel have been sent to the site for carrying out combing operation and patrolling in the area after the killing.
