Maoists gun down contractor
Armed Maoists on Saturday night gunned down a petty contractor at Mahaguda village under Bandhugaon police limit in Koraput district, nearly 500 km from here.
According police, at around midnight on Saturday two rebels came to the deceased Ganesh Khosla’s village and looked for him at his home. On being informed that he was watching a local cultural programme at the end of the village, they went to him and asked to follow them. Just outside the village they fired three rounds at Khosla and fled the spot.

Cops recover Maoist arms dump

May 1: In a major breakthrough, security personnel on Sunday recovered an arms dump of Maoists in the forests of Churia region in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district, police said.
In a joint operation involving district force (DF) of Chhattisgarh, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and police of neighbouring state of Maharashtra, security personnel raided a Maoist camp in the dense forests near Bijepur, bordering Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, and seized the arms dump.

1997 CP fake encounter: SC order today
New Delhi, May 1: The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict on Monday in the 1997 Connaught Place fake encounter case in which 10 policemen, including an assistant police commissioner, were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Delhi high court.
A bench of Justices H.S. Bedi and C.K. Prasad will pass its judgment on a bunch of appeals filed by the convicts in the case, including the dismissed Delhi police assistant commissioner S.S. Rathi, challenging the high court’s verdict. The HC had on September 18, 2009 upheld the conviction and life sentence of the 10 policemen for the killing of two businessmen due to mistaken identity. —PTI
