Many not keen on Amar return
Mr Amar Singh has been maintaining a low profile in politics after he left the Samajwadi Party and has not joined any other party. His Rashtriya Lok Manch drew a blank in the recent Assembly elections. Mr Singh, a source said, did not wish to go the Kalyan Singh way and was keen to return to mainstream politics.
“Both the leaders have realised each other’s worth. If Mr Singh does return to the Samajwadi Party, he will be asked to play a limited role and Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav will also not burden him with too much work because he is aware of his health issues,” said a senior SP minister.
However, Mr Amar Singh’s return to the Samajwadi Party will not be easy. He has three formidable foes in the party who will not accept his comeback very readily.
Firstly, Ram Gopal Yadav, who played a key role in the expulsion of Mr Amar Singh, has risen in stature in the party hierarchy and it will not be easy for the party leadership to “overlook” his views.
Secondly, senior SP minister Mohammed Azam Khan, whose bitter hostility with Mr Amar Singh is well known and well chronicled, is bound to oppose the leader’s re-entry into the party.
Thirdly, SP MP Jaya Bachchan may also not accept Mr Amar Singh back in the SP though she is unlikely to get very vocal about her reservations. The ice between Mr Singh and the Bachchans has not thawed and there are no indications of their relations improving in the near future.
