Man molests doc ‘girlfriend’, held

A 41-year-old rich businessman’s tactics to win back his doctor girlfriend on her birthday went wayward, as he ended up in jail for allegedly molesting her.

According to the Bangur Nagar police, the accused, Punit Shirangi, and the 28-year-old victim Snehalata (name changed) knew each other and were in a live-in relationship for a few years in the past.
However, Snehalata broke the relationship with him and Shirangi was trying hard to get her back. On Saturday, Snehalata who is a resident of Dindoshi, Malad (east), was celebrating her birthday with her friends when Shirangi visited her residence and tried to gift her an expensive finger ring.
Snehalata rejected the gift and asked him to leave. She then left her residence in a rickshaw with her friends to a deluxe hotel in the Bangur Nagar area of Malad (west).
Shirangi followed her to the hotel and tried to give her a greeting card, but Snehalata turned him down again. Shirangi, however, kissed and groped her. Embarrassed by the incident, Snehalata rushed to the police station where a case was registered at midnight on Sunday.
“We have registered a case of molestation under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code against Shirangi,” said investigating officer, sub-inspector Ganesh Todkar of Bangur Nagar police station.
“He has been arrested and produced before the magistrate’s court on Sunday. He has been sent to police custody for further investigation,” added Mr Todkar.
Shirangi in his police statement alleged that Snehalata made him divorce his wife and splurge a lot of money on her.
