Man kills father for booze money
An auto driver in Thudiyalur was arrested on Wednesday for killing his father because he refused to give him money for buying liquor.
Mohan Raj, 32, pestered his father Devaraj, a retired lineman, for money on Tuesday night and akicked him repeatedly when he refused, according to the Thudiyalur police.
“Mohan Raj, who was already drunk, asked his father to give his monthly pension of Rs 1,000. When Devaraj said he had kept the money to buy medicines, his son kicked himrepeatedly,” said the police.
“After the arguments and violence, Mohan Raj fell asleep. Only in the morning did he realise that he had killed his father, when he saw the old man lying on the floor having bled from his mouth,” police said.
Coimbatore district rural SP E.S. Uma told Deccan Chronicle, “Though Mohan Raj ran away from the house, based on an alert from the neighbours we learnt about the incident and immediately formed teams and located him.”
The police official said that of late she had received several complaints from senior citizens against their children.
“It is disgusting that we have to protect some elders not just from anti-social elements but also from their own children,” she added.
S.M. Chellaswamy of the Tamil Nadu Elders Welfare Association said severe action should be taken against children who abuse their parents.
