Man jumps inside lion enclosure to kill himself
Suryanarayan Das, the 30-year-old youth who on Friday tried to commit suicide by jumping into the lion safari at Nandankanan zoo here, on Saturday said he took the extreme step because of a family feud.
“My wife always used to pick up quarrels with me. She never loved me and humiliated me before others. Since the torture on me became a regular affair at home, I decided to end my life,” Das, who is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College, Cuttack, told reporters on Saturday. He stated he had come to the zoo seven days before to have a look at the geographic location of the lion enclosure and prepared the blueprint on how to execute the suicide plan. “Once I made up my mind to sever all my mundane ties, I thought to offer myself before the lion, the career of Goddess Durga. Before I jumped into the enclosure, I prostrated before the lions present inside, prayed to them to accept me as their fodder or take me in their lap to live with them,” Suryanarayan, who did not appear in good mental condition, muttered.
Suryanarayan, a resident of Chhatrapur in Ganjam district, was working as security guard in a private firm in Karnataka. He had returned home a couple of months ago.
According to hospital sources his condition still remained critical.
