Man falls off his SUV from Chennai flyover, dies
Chennai: In a freak accident, a man driving a Tata Sumo on the flyover on TTK Road in Alwarpet, lost control of it and was thrown from the vehicle on to a parked car beneath on Tuesday and died on the spot from severe injury to his head.
Stephan Antony, 57, a mechanic of home appliances and a resident of CIT Colony, went up the flyover in the Sumo at around 1pm , according to the police. “It looks like he banged his vehicle on the right ledge of the flyover as he took the left turn and was thrown from his seat and over the flyover while the vehicle moved further to the left and hit against the ledge before coming to a halt,” the police said. The Sumo had a defence vehicle registration number of 98B 066490A.
“It had been bought in a defence auction by his friend and left with Stephan. The car on which he fell, a Maruti Swift Desire, was also damaged,” the police added.
From Thiruvanathapuram in Kerala, Stephan lived with his family in Chennai. His wife , Vinodhini , is a receptionist in a hospital in Teynampet and their elder daughter is studying to be a nurse.
A younger daughter is in Class 7.
