Man calls off wedding after bride's brother rapes sister

A man called off his marriage a few hours before the marriage ceremony after his sister was allegedly raped by the bride's brother on the wedding night in a village here.

The groom's sister had gone to a nearby field to ease herself on the wedding night November 23 when the bride's brother raped her at gunpoint in Neemchana village, police said.

Hearing her cries, members of the marriage party rushed to the field and found her lying unconscious.

The accused managed to flee.

The girl's medical report confirmed rape, police said. Agitated over the incident, the groom called off his marriage and returned, they said, adding that the accused was arrested.
