Man attempts suicide at public place, police foil bid
A man tried to commit suicide by setting himself on fire over a land grab case here on Tuesday, even as police foiled his attempt.
The incident took place at Civil Hospital chowk here, police said. According to police, one Mansukh Parmar, who belonged to Dalit community, tried to set himself ablaze, but was prevented from doing so by the cops, who were posted at the location.
Parmar has been rounded up for the suicide attempt, they added.
Parmar said he owns a land in Malyasan town of Rajkot district and had lodged a complaint against nearly 15 persons, who allegedly wanted to grab his land. He further said that despite the complaint, police had not acted upon it.
"I had lodged a complaint against some 15 persons, who harassed me for grabbing my land in Malyasan town," Parmar said adding that no action was taken against them.
However, police said they have detained around 10 members of the group for interrogation. "But Parmar insists that all the 15 accused should be arrested," a police official investigating the case said.
