Mamata criticises ‘saviours of govt’ on FDI
Trying to put up a brave front after the fiasco of Trinamul Congress’ no-confidence motion on the FDI in Lok Sabha, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack against political parties whom she described as “saviours of government”.
Although she did not name them, it was evident that she was referring to the BJP and Left parties who turned down her appeal for support. An evidently miffed Ms Banerjee said that these parties had been exposed before the people.
Ms Banerjee’s strategy was clear. In the panchayat polls, she would go to the people claiming that she had tried to topple the government to stop the entry of the FDI in multi-brand retail but these parties did not support her no-trust vote and helped the government to survive.
In a post on social networking site Facebook, Ms Banerjee claimed that although the no-confidence motion was rejected on the floor of the House because it did not muster the support of the requisite number of members, the “no trust” against the UPA government had not been rejected by the people. “Now, you see the saviours of the government are exposed. Today, you have seen that according to our commitment to the people of the country, AITMC members of the Parliament moved the no-confidence motion against the UPA government on the opening day of the session. We knew our limitation was the strength, and ultimately that is why the motion was rejected,” Ms Banerjee posted.
