Mallika does a Monroe for Modi

He may have been named only recently as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, but on his 63rd birthday on Tuesday, Mr Narendra Modi received some very “presidential” greetings.

In a nod to Marilyn Monroe’s famous Happy Birthday Mr President, which the late Hollywood actress performed for US President John F. Kennedy on his 45th birthday in May 1962, actress Mallika Sherawat uploaded a video of herself crooning birthday greetings for Mr Modi.
Unlike Monroe though, Sherawat didn’t step out in a daring flesh-coloured gown, sticking to a fairly sedate pink number with a sequinned jacket. Her musical greeting was restricted to repeating “Happy Birthday Narendra Modiji” a few times.
Sherawat’s video was preceded by a comment that she wanted to send out “a birthday wish to the most eligible bachelor in India”.
The actor was perhaps referring to her widely published statement on September 7 at a press conference in Udaipur for her new TV show Bachelorette India — Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika that she thought of Mr Modi as her “Mr Right”.
“He is smart, progressive and misunderstood — just like me,” Sherawat had said. The video seems to have been shot on the sets of the same show.
