Maken brings athlete to AIIMS

National-level volleyball player Arunima Sinha, alias Sonu, who lost a leg after being pushed off a moving train, has now been taken to Delhi for further treatment.
Union sports minister Ajay Maken and UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi met the girl and her family at the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University in Lucknow with a team of doctors and the girl’s family insisted that she should be shifted to Delhi for further and advanced treatment.

Within two hours, Sonu was airlifted with her family members to Delhi.
Earlier in the day, the athlete was offered a government job by UP sports minister Ayodhya Pal Singh.
The sports minister met Sonu at the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University and offered her a job in sports directorate or the sports college.
An official of the sports directorate told reporters said Arunima and her family members have accepted the offer saying that the athlete wants to continue her association with sports.
The girl had lost her leg after being pushed out of Padmavat Express by some miscreants near Bareilly on the night of April 11 while she was on her way to Gautam Buddha Nagar to appear in the CISF recruitment examination.
“We will be first assessing her and then give her the treatment that she requires. For the time being, her condition is stable,” said Dr M.C. Mishra, medical superintendent at AIIMS trauma centre.
In his letter, Union minister of state for health, Dinesh Trivedi, expressed concern about the quality of medical care Arunima was getting. The letter issued by Mr Trivedi’s private secretary Monday said, “… am extremely concerned about the quality of medical care extended to Ms Arunima. He desires that the best possible facilities and treatment be provided to her.”
The National Commission for Women and couple of political parties demanded that she be shifted to AIIMS.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
