Maha officials booked for graft
The Kalachowkie police has booked office-bearers of Maharashtra State Child Welfare Committee (MSCWC) for misappropriating government funds of `51.83 lakh. The alleged cheating had taken place during the period 2004 to 2011 in the committee’s office at Currey Road.
The police has identified the accused and is conducting investigations to gather more details, but are yet to make an arrest in the case.
The police has registered the offence on the complaint of Gokul Devare, district woman and child development officer. The police said Mr Devare in his complaint has stated that in the month of June 2011, the commissioner of Maharashtra state woman and child development had received a number of complaints of possible misappropriations of government funds in the anganwadi volunteers’ training centres at Nashik. This centre is one of those eight centres, which is run by the MSCWC, Currey Road.
Following the complaints, the Maharashtra state woman and child development department commissioner ordered deputy director (finance and accounts), women and child development commissionerate, H.L. Pawar, to conduct a thorough probe into the entire scam. Mr Pawar, after conducting the probe, submitted his report on June 22, 2012.
Based on the findings of his report, Mr Devare was ordered to make police complaint against the culprits. “While explaining the alleged cheating, Mr Devare has told the police that MSCWC, which gets governments funds from the Maharashtra state women and child development commissioner office to run eight anganwadi volunteer-training centres, has not returned `44.75 lakhs of the fund, which was unspent during 2004 to 2011,” said an officer requesting anonymity.
