Lokayukta court summons Yeddy, HDK
The jampacked court hall at the 23rd additional city civil and sessions court — the designated Lokayukka special court — witnessed momentous events on Monday with four cases involving senior politicians and officials coming up during the day.
The day started with a direction to the Lokayukta police to initiate an investigation under section 156 of the CrPC against former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and others, followed by the issuance of summons to BSY and 14 others in the second of the five complaints filed by advocate Sirajin Basha against him.
This was followed by the issuance of summons to another former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and his wife Anita. In the last order of the day, Lokayukta special court judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao rejected the bail applications filed by former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, his corporator son Katta Jagadish and Itasca Company managing director S.V. Srinivas.
The court rejected an application filed by the counsel for Katta Subramanya Naidu seeking a stay and said the accused had appeared before the investigating agency, before the court after summons were issued to them. The counsel also said that since one of the accused. T. Muninarayanappa, retired SLAO was granted bail in the high court, the other accused too could be freed on bail.
“The contentions raised by the counsel are not acceptable. We do not find any merit in the application seeking stay of the order,” the court said while directing the Lokayukta police to remand the accused to custody. While granting conditional bail to the other accused — United Telecom chairman Basavapoornaiah, retired SLAO T. Muninarayanappa, B.K. Manju and Gopi — the court ordered them not to tamper with evidence and not to make contact with any of the prosecution witnesses.
