LK: Don’t hasten division of states
Reacting to the BSP’s proposal to divide Uttar Pradesh UP into four smaller states, senior BJP leader L.K. Advani on Thursday said that the division of states should never be done in haste.
Talking to mediapersons here on Thursday after finishing the Punjab leg of his Janchetna Yatra, Mr Advani said that even in the past states were carved after serious deliberations. He said that even though the BJP is in favour of smaller states, the division should be done after proper thinking.
Mr Advani emphasised that he himself had brought the draft bill when states were to be carved out of UP, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh in the past. Even when states were carved on linguistic basis diligence was taken, he added.
He said that with the bail to the accused in the cash-for-vote scam by the Delhi high court, where the court has not found any evidence against them. The case should be taken to its logical conclusion and real culprits should be found, he said, adding it would be great progress for Indian democracy in the right direction.
On the issue of black money in the foreign banks, Mr Advani said that this issue should be discussed in the coming Winter Session.
“We expect candour from the government in the matter. The government should name the three MPs named in the list of people having account in foreign banks. As an MP I would like to know the name of these MPs. There should be openness about the matter, why should it be concealed.”
Discussing his Janchetna Yatra, he said that in the past, his Ram Rath Yatra was the most satisfying personally, but this was the most successful one in terms of public response.
