LeT planned hit similar to 26/11
New Delhi, Oct 15: India had received specific intelligence inputs warning of terror strikes by Al Qaeda and Lashkar-e Tayyaba combine during the Commonwealth Games prompting security agencies to throw an additional blanket of security cover at the CWG venues and hotels.
According to the intelligence inputs provided by western intelligence agencies, there were intercepts that a frontal attack may be carried out on the Games venues and a 5 star hotel in the Capital on October 12 , 13 on lines of 26/11.
The agencies had shared their inputs on October 10 prompting the union home ministry to order the deployment of additional Quick Reaction Teams and NSG commandos besides the four-tier security ring at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium and other venues.
The inputs shared with Indian agencies said that the terrorists had been given training in the Af-Pak region and were entering the country from the Middle east, Bangladesh and Nepal.
There was information that the terrorists could use heavy bore weapons to carry out a shoot-out and storm their way inside the CWG venues, Games village and hotels where the athletes and foreign delegates were put up.
“There was no time for verification. Additional security personnel were brought in for deployment,” an official said.
