Leaders upset as Pinarayi Vijayan snipes at V.S. Achuthanandan
With the CPI(M) Kerala secretary Pinarayi Vijayan presenting a highly critical report against Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan, indicting him on many counts in the organizational reported presented at the state party meet here, the central leadership is likely to intervene and balance out the report.
Some party leaders feel that the official side in the party led by Vijayan crafted the report with the aim of scuttling Achuthanandnan's chances of returning to the politburo at the upcoming party congress in Kozhikode, and later ease him out of the post of the Opposition Leader.
Party sources say that, of the nearly three hours of presentation of the report, Vijayan spent more than one and a half hours to criticise various acts of the former chief minister in recent times. The idea appeared to be to create an impression ahead of the party congress that Achuthanandan indulged in serious anti-party activities.
The issue is likely to figure at the party congress, but a sizeable section of the central committee members are reportedly not against his return, especially in view of the active role he played for the LDF in the recent assembly elections.
The CC members from the state might quote the organizational report, if it is approved in its present form, to stress their point that bringing Achuthanandan back to the politburo could adversely impact the party's prospects in the state.
