leaders throng attack site
Terming the firing incident outside Jama Masjid on Sunday as “very sad and worrisome,” Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit asserted that there was no need to panic and everything was under control.
“Lots of security measures have already been taken. But wherever there is an inadequacy about it, that hole has to be plugged,” the chief minister said.
Senior BJP leader and its parliamentary party chairman L.K. Advani called up Union home minister P. Chidambaram to discuss the firing incident and enquired about the steps being taken to handle the situation.
Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari called it a “terrorist” incident aimed at creating panic, preventing foreign visitors from coming to the city and making the Commonwealth Games(CWG) a “failure”.
he said, “Killing innocent people, firing several rounds....doing all these things... This is terrorism and the authorities will have to find out who is responsible. Outer forces do not want peace and tranquillity in the country. ”
Union urban development minister Jaipal Reddy said the incident will have no impact whatsoever on the CWG, while Games Organising Committee head Suresh Kalmadi said he has spoken to many Commonwealth countries and they are not worried.
