Law and order top priority: Akhilesh
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said law and order is the priority of the new government with the responsibility for implementing the election manifesto.
"Law and order is our priority and from today its our responsibility. Till now we have been levelling allegations on others," Akhilesh told reporters in his maiden press conference after taking oath as UP CM.
He said the party was grateful to the people for saving SP from all ills by giving it a majority. "It is the responsibility of the SP government to implement its election manifesto among the people and things it said before them", he said.
The new CM said the important task was payment of unemployment allowance. The manner in which a large number of youths turned up for electioneering, he said that unemployment so far hidden with no figures on the jobless has come out in the open now.
"I would like to assure that whatever we put before the people...there is a cabinet meeting in the evening and decisions will be taken on them," he said. Akhilesh said UP was celebrating democracy and there were 'restrictions' during the previous government.
"A lot of injustice and harassment was done in the previous regime. UP which could have marched ahead lagged behind. Institutionalised corruption on such a large scale never happened," he alleged.
From this, he said it was clear that the Samajwadi Party had been working to save democratic values. "SP will work with the intention to check corruption and implement its election manifesto," he added.
