Lathicharge on Peace Party rally
Dozens of persons were injured when the police resorted to lathicharge to disperse members of the Peace Party who were holding a demonstration in front of the UP assembly on Monday to protest against the violence in Muzaffarnagar.
A large number of workers belonging to the Peace Party had assembled in front of the Vidhan Sabha demanding dismissal of the Akhilesh Yadav government and `50 lakh compensation to the next of kin of the Muslims killed in the Muzaffarnagar riots. They also demanded `10 lakh aid to those injured.
The protesters demanded a judicial probe into the riots and also sought immediate release of ‘innocent’ Muslims who had been arrested during the riots.
Some party workers attempted to scale the gates of the building after which police resorted to lathi-charge. Several protesters were injured in the police action.
