Last rites of Arjun with full honour
The mortal remains of veteran Congress leader Arjun Singh were consigned to flames with full state honours on Sunday afternoon at Churhat in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh.
There was a sombre silence when Arjun Singh’s elder son Abhimanyu Singh lit the funeral pyre while Ajay Singh, his younger brother and senior Congress MLA stood near him. The last rites were performed near the Rao Sagar Pond at Churhat.
Union ministers Pranab Mukherjee, Kamal Nath, Kantilal Bhuria, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Arun Yadav, state governor Rameshwar Thakur, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, state Congress president Suresh Pachouri, Madhay Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh, BJP general secretary Narendra Singh Tomar and former state chief minister Babulal Gaur attended the funeral along with a large number of followers, Congress workers and relatives.

Assam Cong to declare list on March 15

March 6: Afraid of ongoing violent protests by ticket seekers, the Assam Congress here on Sunday announced that all the sitting MLAs might not get the party ticket.
Indicating that the winning prospects of the candidate would be the criteria of selection, PCC chief Bhuwneswar Kalita told reporters that Congress high command would take the final decision in this regard. Announcing that the first list of the candidates would be declared on Tuesday, March 15, Mr Kalita said that state election committee of the party would be meeting here on March 8 and 9 to send its recommendations on candidates to the central election committee which will screen the final list of candidates.

AGP accuses EC of going soft on model poll code

March 6: The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad and BJP on Saturday accused that the EC has failed to implement the model code of conduct effectively in Assam. Regretting that the commission has failed in curbing the distribution of freebies by the state government officials discreetly, AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said that state was also reluctant to recover unlicensed arms from miscreants but commission has not taken any effective steps in this regard.
