Last eclipse of the year on Dec. 21
New Delhi, Dec. 18: A total lunar eclipse on Tuesday, December 21, will be the last eclipse of 2010, a statement by the Planetary Society, India said on Saturday. The eclipse will not be visible in India.
According to Mr N. Sri Raghunandan Kumar, general secretary of the Planetary Society, the eclipse will begin 10.58 am and end at 4.36 pm.
The eclipse is occurring on the day of winter solstice, the shortest day, or the longest night, of the year. The last time this happened was about 400 years ago, on December 21, 1638.
The eclipse will be visible in Europe, West Africa, America, the Pacific Ocean, eastern Australia, the Philippines and eastern and northern Asia.
The next eclipse will occur on January 4, 2011.
