Lanka CHOGM: No decision yet

Faced with opposition by Tamil parties to Prime Minister’s participation in Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Sri Lanka, external affairs minister Salman Khurshid on Thursday said no decision has yet been taken on level of India’s participation in the summit scheduled in November.

He further said New Delhi remains engaged with Colombo to ensure that fishermen on both sides can continue to pursue their livelihood in a safe, secure and sustainable manner.
“In March, the government received a letter each from the CMs of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, urging the Prime Minister not to attend the CHOGM in Colombo. The Government has not yet taken a decision on the level of its participation,” Mr Khurshid said in Rajya Sabha.
