Krishna district protests for unity
Vijayawada: The response to the indefinite bandh called by the APNGOs in support of Samaikyandhra was total and peaceful in Krishna district. All government offices were seen locked from Tuesday morning while the RTC authorities cancelled bus services.
Though people from various sections of the society participated in the bandh voluntarily, for the first time, people were inconvenienced due to RTC services being off the roads. The absence of buses hit the people, especially those visiting the city, hard, forcing them to depend on auto rickshaws and private vehicles, paying extra fare.
The Samaikyandhra agitation also affected the devotees rush at the Kanakadurga temple, due to lack of transport. Thin attendance of devotees was seen at the temple, as against the heavy rush witnessed during the Sravanam month.
NGOs’ leaders, who staged a protest at the taluk office here said that over 50,000 employees, including those from the government and public sector, across the district participated in the strike. Similar protests were organised at Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Nuzvid, Nandigama, Jaggaiahpet and other places in the district. Even villagers expressed their anger over the state bifurcation by taking out a bullock cart rally.
